Okay to start things off I guess I need to admit something...

I am a Apple Koolaid Drinker.

Yes, folks its true.  Anything Apple I usually go crazy over.  In fact I have been a Apple Fan Boy since before the return of The Man himself.  Yes, before Steve came back to Apple I used Classic Mac OS.  My background is in the Graphic Design field where Apple has always had its strongest following and supporters.  During my college days I weathered the constant barrage of "Apple is dying", "Mac OS SUCKS!", "Macs are just toys" and "Macs are way overpriced".

Those were indeed dark times compared to the newfound glory of Apple today.  And of course there is no doubt that The Man, Steve, has been the whole reason for this second Apple renaissance.  It was Steve who turned the beleaguered Apple around, introduced the coolest new computer ever to hit the market and changed the whole PC market from that moment on.

Indeed, the bondi-blue iMac was a revolution.  A revolution in design and thought.  Gone was the floppy drive!  DEAD DEAD DEAD.  Gone were the Serial Ports. And more importantly, gone was the beige squarish boxes.  And "what the heck is USB?!?!"  It was from that moment on that Apple began to again focus on making the user experience better.  Great industrial design began to churn out of the Apple Computer machine!  Industrial design that left the competition scrambling to copy and the other fan-boys sneering in self-righteous envy.

I coveted the new iMac.  It haunted my dreams... It drove me into a frenzy of  Apple filled mania.  So it was my iMac journey began.  My first iMac was a dreamish-joy.  And I will now admit another great weakness of mine.  I have owned a copy of every single major iMac version since its debut.  From my Slate Gray iMac Special Editon, to the awe-inspiring sunflower iMac (which still resides on my children's desk), to the iPod-esque white iMac (Intel Core Duo) which I now use to this day.

When rumors surfaced that Apple was again working on a new iMac design I KNEW I would be compelled by the Reality Distortion Field to get one.  My free-will would be taken.  So I resolved to save my pennies for that inevitable doom.

Enter August 2007.  A day long awaited by myself.  Pennies were saved.  Anticipation was high.  I was ready to plunk down the asking price, to be one of the first to have FedEx knock on my door and deliver the new iMac.  I was surprised by the new design.  I didn't hate it or jump for joy.  But there it was, new keyboard design and all!!! Credit card was ready...  And then I decided to check on thing to be sure...

Ever since Apple moved to Intel processors, which in part I think have fueled Apple's rise in the minds of everyone, I have relished the idea of installing Boot Camp and running a few Window$ games while doing all my designs, software writing in OS X.   So I had to be sure...  I had to check one thing.  The video card. (aka GPU)  So I looked it up and was saddened... No, I would say mortified to see Apple playing at their old games again!  "Noooooooooo!!!!!", I cried in horror and agony.  "Noooooo!!!! DAMN YOU STEVE!!!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!!"  So it was that Apple installed a pukified™ video card.

Has Apple learned nothing?

imac_devilI am now in the camp of disgruntled Apple fans.  WE WANT MORE OPTIONS!!! We want to have the option to upgrade the video card if that is what we so desire!

Only time will tell if I can ignore the voices in my head telling me to "Buy it!  Buy it!" or can I hope that Apple will grow a collective brain and give us the option for a better video card...  I'm not holding my breath.

I have always wondered why it is that the iMac line continues to NOT have the option of upgrading the video card when the mac has been on the forefront of so much else... and, I must admit, ever since I owned my powerbook 165c (which still runs...occasionally I even pull it out and play with it--with it's super streamlined OS 7.6 and everything--stripped down for super fast OS start-up) I have been an apple fanatic.
